Is Base44 free? Free vs Starter vs Builder in 2026

Yes, with a small allowance. Base44, the Wix-owned AI app builder that sets up the front end, back end, database, user sign-in and hosting from plain-language prompts, has a Free plan that costs $0. It gives you 25 message credits a month, no more than 5 of them a day, plus 100 integration credits for things your app does, like sending email or calling an AI model, for up to 5 apps. Custom domains, private apps, in-app code edits and hiding the Base44 badge start with Starter at $16 a month billed annually ($20 monthly); GitHub sync, backend functions, connectors and model choice start with Builder at $40 ($50 monthly). Below: every plan and what it costs, what 25 credits actually buy, what the Free plan can't do, whether your apps are used for AI training, refunds and the student discount, and the free app builders to try instead, all checked on Base44's pricing page, Base44's docs and its terms on Oct 20, 2026.

What Base44's Free plan includes

Free includes all of Base44's core features: you describe the app and Base44 builds the front end, back end, database, user sign-in and analytics, and every app goes live on a free built-in address (yourapp.base44.app) that you can rename. You get 25 message credits a month, but you can use no more than 5 a day; when you hit the daily limit, building pauses until midnight in the workspace owner's time zone. Integration credits (100 a month) pay for what your published app does. Free is capped at 5 apps and 200 MB of database per app. Base44 says you can ship complete apps on it.

What 25 message credits buy

Base44 doesn't charge a fixed amount per message; it works out the cost after each message runs. Its own guide: a simple text or style change uses about 0.5 credits, improving a small feature about 1, adding a complex module about 2, and an app-wide change 3 to 4. A message in Discuss mode, where you plan without changing code, uses about 0.3. Dragging elements and editing text by hand in the visual editor is free. So 25 credits is roughly one small app with a handful of features, and the 5-a-day limit spreads it over at least five days. On Free, automatic error fixes and Resolve with AI also use credits; on paid plans they're free.

Integration credits: what your live app spends

Integration credits cover Base44's built-in services when your app runs. Rough costs from Base44's docs: about 1 credit per email sent, file upload, generated image or LLM call on the Automatic model; about 3 or more per message to an in-app AI agent; about 5 per second of generated video; and about 1 credit per 10 workflow steps. Reading and writing your app's database is free, and calling an outside service with your own API key doesn't use integration credits. When they run out, those actions fail, and people using your app see a generic error. 100 credits a month is enough to test, not to run an app that emails its users.

What the Free plan can't do

Several features start with Starter: connecting your own domain, private apps (a paid feature since Feb 6, 2026; older private apps keep working), editing code inside Base44, hiding the "Edit with Base44" badge (which also lets anyone copy your public app into their own account) and more than 5 apps. Others start with Builder: two-way GitHub sync, backend functions, connectors to tools like Gmail or HubSpot, and choosing the AI model (Free and Starter use Automatic). Credits reset monthly on paid plans, on the day you subscribed, and unused credits expire; they don't roll over.

Is your Base44 app used for AI training?

Yes, unless you're on Enterprise. Base44's privacy and security docs say data on every plan other than Enterprise, including Business, can be used to train AI models, and that Enterprise data is excluded automatically. Base44's Terms of Service also give it a license to use customer data and generated output to train its AI and machine-learning tools. Base44 does say you own what you build: your code, your data and your users.

Who runs Base44 and who can use it

Base44 was founded in January 2025 and acquired by Wix in June 2025; Wix.com Ltd. is the company named in Base44's terms. Individuals must be at least 13 (16 in the EU) to use it. Base44 says third-party services you connect, such as Stripe, SendGrid or OpenAI, bill you directly at their own prices; the plan price itself has no extra fees. Domains bought through Base44 since Sep 9, 2026 are registered with Wix, unless your plan is billed through the Apple App Store.

Which paid plan: Starter, Builder, Pro or Elite

Base44 says most people land on Starter, teams shipping several apps on Builder or Pro, and Elite is for people running their main product or business on Base44. The jump that matters most is Starter to Builder: for $24 more a month (billed annually) you get 2.5 times the message credits, five times the integration credits, GitHub sync, backend functions, connectors and model choice. Credits are shared by everyone in the workspace. If you run out mid-cycle, upgrading gives you the new plan's credits right away; on a monthly-to-monthly upgrade you pay the full price difference and unused credits carry over for one more cycle. Bonus credits never carry over.

Refunds, discounts and cancelling

Base44's terms say fees are non-cancelable and non-refundable, and credits used on AI mistakes aren't refunded; Base44 may make exceptions for wrong-plan purchases if you contact support quickly. You can cancel any time and keep your plan until the end of the billing period; then your workspace drops to Free, and if you have more than 5 apps you choose which 5 stay published. Base44 takes credit and debit cards only, not PayPal, bank transfers or crypto. Students, teachers and staff at accredited schools get 50% off Starter or Builder after verifying a school email: for up to 12 months on monthly billing, or the first year on annual. Base44 is also rolling out a one-time offer of 20 message credits for posting about your project on X or LinkedIn (from an account with over 100 followers).

Frequently asked questions

Is Base44 free?

Yes, with a small allowance. The Free plan is $0 with 25 message credits a month (up to 5 a day), 100 integration credits and up to 5 apps, including authentication, a database, analytics and hosting on a base44.app address. Paid plans start with Starter at $16/mo billed annually, or $20 monthly.

What are the limits of Base44's free plan?

25 message credits a month and no more than 5 a day, 100 integration credits a month, up to 5 apps and 200 MB of database per app. Free apps are public, show the Base44 badge and can't use a custom domain. In-app code edits need Starter; GitHub sync, backend functions and choosing the AI model need Builder.

How much is Base44 per month?

Billed annually: Starter $16/mo, Builder $40/mo, Pro $80/mo and Elite from $160/mo. Billed monthly: $20, $50, $100 and from $200. Annual billing saves 20%. Business and Enterprise prices aren't listed on the pricing page.

Do Base44 credits roll over?

No. On paid plans, message and integration credits reset once a month on the day you subscribed, and unused credits expire. On Free, up to 5 credits a day are available, up to 25 a month. The one exception: upgrading from a monthly plan to a higher monthly plan carries unused credits over for one more cycle.

Can I export my code from Base44 for free?

Base44 says you own your code and data, but two-way GitHub sync needs the Builder plan ($40/mo billed annually) or higher, and in-app code edits need Starter. If you want free Git sync, Lovable's Free plan includes it.

Does Base44 use my apps to train AI?

It can on every plan except Enterprise. Base44's docs say data on all other plans, including Business, can be used to train AI models, and Enterprise data is excluded automatically. Its terms also license customer data and generated output for training its AI tools.

What's the best free alternative to Base44?

Bolt.new Free (300K tokens a day, up to 1M a month) has the biggest free allowance. Lovable Free (5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month) includes Git sync. Replit Starter adds daily Agent credits and 1 published app for 30 days, and v0 Free (7 messages a day) suits Next.js apps you'll deploy on Vercel.
