Base44 vs Replit: which should builders use?

Both build a working, hosted app from a prompt. Base44 runs your app on its own managed back end (database, built-in auth and backend functions reached through the Base44 SDK) and meters work in message and integration credits that reset each month. Replit runs Agent inside a full cloud workspace with managed PostgreSQL, App Storage and several deployment types, and bills paid AI work, publishing and databases from one pool of credits, with a Free Mode for no-cost Agent work up to your plan's allowance. Every price below was checked on base44.com and replit.com on Oct 21, 2026.

How the pricing compares

At the entry level they're close: Base44 Starter is $16/mo billed annually ($20 monthly) and Replit Core is $18/mo billed annually ($20 monthly). Base44 says annual billing saves 20%; Replit's pricing page says up to 10% off. What you get differs. Starter gives 100 message credits and 2,000 integration credits that expire at the end of each cycle, with hosting included and GitHub sync starting at Builder ($40/mo billed annually). Core gives $20 a month toward Power and Max modes plus Free Mode (up to 30 hours of chat, refreshing every five hours), but those same credits also pay for publishing, databases and storage, so a busy app eats into your AI budget. Replit's next step is Pro at $90/mo billed annually ($100 monthly) with credit rollover and up to 15 builders; Base44's is Builder at $40/mo billed annually ($50 monthly). Above your monthly credits, Replit sells credit packs ($100 to $1,000, valid six months); Base44's docs don't list top-ups.

Which free plan goes further?

For a small app you want to keep live, Base44 Free: up to 5 apps with hosting included, 25 message credits a month (no more than 5 a day) and 100 integration credits, though new apps are public with the Base44 badge. Replit Starter is better for trying Agent: daily Agent credits up to a monthly cap and Free Mode with a daily cap (Replit doesn't publish the exact numbers), but only Lite build (no Full build, Plan Mode or connectors) and one published app that goes down after 30 days unless you publish it again. Neither free plan removes the badge.

Owning your app and moving it

Base44's pricing FAQ says you own your code, data and users, and its two-way GitHub sync (Builder and up) pushes the full source to your repository. That code is a React and Vite front end that talks to Base44's managed back end through the Base44 SDK. Replit has a guided Base44 import: export the project to GitHub, open replit.com/import, pick Base44 and select the repository. Replit says it brings over code, design and styles, assets, backend logic and the database schema, but not existing records or secrets (API keys and environment variables), which you add again. Going the other way, Replit apps live in Git and can be pushed to GitHub, and Base44's Base Code works on an existing GitHub repository with AI chat, branches and pull requests.

Pick Base44 if…

You want an all-in-one back end you never have to set up, hosting that doesn't come out of your credits, up to 5 apps on the free plan, integrations with tools like Gmail, Slack and Salesforce, multi-user editing on every plan and a free domain for a year on any yearly plan, and you're fine with credits that reset each month and with Base44 using your data for AI training below Enterprise.

Pick Replit Agent if…

You want a full cloud workspace with PostgreSQL, a Free Mode for no-cost Agent work on paid plans, native iOS and Android apps you can upload to App Store Connect, more control over hosting (Autoscale, Reserved VM, Static), credit rollover on Pro, a guided import from Base44, or a training opt-out on Pro.

Our verdict

For a simple app with the back end handled for you, Base44 is the easier and slightly cheaper start ($16 vs $18/mo billed annually) and its free plan keeps up to 5 apps live. Replit is the more capable workspace: real PostgreSQL, mobile apps, flexible hosting and Free Mode on Core, but one credit pool pays for both AI and hosting, so costs are harder to predict. If you might outgrow Base44, note that Replit imports Base44 projects through GitHub, which needs Base44's Builder plan.

Frequently asked questions
