Cline is an Apache-2.0 open-source coding agent that runs as a VS Code extension, a CLI, a desktop app and an SDK. It edits files across your project, runs terminal commands, uses MCP servers and asks for approval at each step (Plan and Act modes, checkpoints). It's free for individual developers: you bring your own API keys or pay for inference at cost through Cline.
