Coding agent
Windsurf (Devin Desktop)
Cognition's agentic IDE, formerly Windsurf, now Devin Desktop
Windsurf was renamed Devin Desktop by Cognition in June 2026. It keeps the VS Code-based IDE and adds an Agent Command Center; its local agent Cascade was replaced by Devin Local in July 2026. A competitive alternative to Cursor for agent-first editing.
Our take
- Vibe coding: Its Devin Local agent (Cascade's successor) is competitive with Cursor for multi-file work. Solid alternative if you want a different IDE bet.
- Coding agents: Devin Local (formerly Cascade) is a serious multi-step agent in an IDE wrapper. Competitive plans and strong editing.
